Waning Summer

Summer is almost gone.

Soon the days will grow shorter and before we know it we'll be pulling out our sweaters and scarves, talking about how much we love fall and sipping on everything pumpkin spice.

I'm right there with you; I love me some fall.

But just like the late summer heat leads into the cooler temperatures of fall, fall leads into winter and that period of time that we all wish for spring to arrive again. It's an endless cycle and one we expect but rarely take the time to learn from.

In life we often find ourselves in seasons of intense heat and pressure, followed by those cooler temps that allow us to love and enjoy everything that surrounds us.

Then there are other seasons that we feel alone and cold and barren and we long for another spring to arrive: for life to seemingly begin again.

Sometimes it's difficult to remember that seasons in our lives will come and go, that there is a cycle, that the bad times don't and won't last forever - and the good times won't either.

As the leaves change into their brilliant oranges and reds and we appreciate the beauty of nature evolving, may we appreciate the beauty of our own lives, their evolution and the fact that nothing lasts forever.
